M4 Wrap Up
Thirty five teams played in the 10th playing of the M4 (Maine Maryland at Meadow Mill) Doubles Tournament at Meadow Mill Sept 20-22. Players traveled from Los Angeles California, Toronto Canada, Philadelphia PA, Greenwich CT, New York and Charlottesville, VA. The youngest player in the draw was Jack Patternotte, 11 and the oldest was Jack Hollick, 78. Two other juniors played – Saraj Dhillon, Gilman school freshman and Aidan Ronayne, who played with his grandfather, Bob Everd in the Men’s C.
In the Men’s Super B, second place came down to the last tiebreaker, percentage of points won when three teams had equal records of one match win, 6 games won and 8 games lost. A similar outcome happened in the Men’s 70’s where two teams were 1 match win, 5 games won and 7 games lost. Fred Hill, founder of the tournament, played in the B draw with Nathan Li, formerly with Johns Hopkins Club Squash team.
Most draws were played as round robins and most players played in two events. There were many close five game matches with the level of competition high.
The new hardball singles ball for play on the wider court was introduced to players during the tournament.
