Celebrating Annapolis Squash - Inaugural Naval Academy Tournament

Naval Academy Tournament

Recently, the US Naval Academy and its squash professional/coach, Tyler Osborne, hosted its first Open Squash Tournament – for both Singles and Doubles players (with the use of their all-glass court on the Academy grounds). Attached are some photos from the event – which Maryland Squash is hoping will be a recurring event for our State squash players.

With nearly 20 teams and players at this event, Mr. Osborne created several pools for more play for each team/player, resulting in a weekend tournament held over 2+ days. Congratulations to Ben Korn and Will Hyer for winning the first-ever Naval Academy Doubles Tournament. And on the Singles side, the entire bracket was very competitive, with only a handful of matches going 3-0 throughout the weekend. The semi-finals were of high quality - both going long into the fifth games. Ryan York would overcome Eliza Schuster in one semi-final, while Andrew Ko would knock out Ben Korn in the other. Ryan would get the better of Andrew Sunday morning 3-1 in a well-fought finals.

Mr. Osborne shared, “we are thankful for the support, participation, and commitment from the squash community over this weekend and look forward to another go around and bringing in more players. We’d like to add some team events for doubles and singles, in the future, as well”.
