Top-seeded Bryn Mawr’s squash team did not waver after the McDonogh sister tandem of Abby and Eliza Schuster swept the No. 1 and No. 2 matches at the inaugural IAAM squash championship on Tuesday at the Coppermine Racquet & Fitness Club - Bare Hills.

The Mawrtians responded by winning the next five matches to secure the title.

Seniors Emma Campbell, Olivia Matlaga and Anisha Narasimhan (captain), junior captain Maya Reedich and sophomores Brigid Brandon, Sabina Sitwat and Aisha Tarar joined freshman Fionnoula Brandon in producing the victory.

BMS coach Kate Brendler said that she and co-coach Laz Chilufya had to work through some “challenges due to illness and injury” this season.

“Our team worked hard and played hard, piecing together a very successful IAAM season” Brendler added. “Our plan was to win as many (matches) as possible as a team. And that is how we will head to nationals next week — as a team.”

Reedich is also pleased with how well the Mawrtians overcame obstacles.

“Despite several setbacks with injuries and COVID, every member of our team has stepped up and shown great responsibility and maturity,” she said. “Although half of our team are underclassmen, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference based on how they carry themselves on and off the court. Each player has met my coaches’ and my expectations by always showing up and putting in the work, even if it meant running a hundred court sprints to warm up.”
